RODRIGUES INDIAN OCEAN

We thought , middle of nowhere in the Indian Ocean, they said it was “pristine”. It was all propaganda. Rodrigues was a showcase of what can possibly go wrong. First, the human provoked global boiling left already its mark. Second, the overpopulation and the demographic boom . A slight change in weather pattern can provoke a food shortage. Water was a problem. It was definitely not safe for use, but the people where poor and extremly friendly..

Overpopulation led to over fishing. The inner lagoon was destroyed.

The fishermen , in small kayaks, used the Venice Lagoon rowing technique. They had no sails or paddles, instead they used very long poles to push the kayak around. That meant the complete destruction of the sea bottom coral which was crushed with the poles.

We went 2017. Expensive and long journey for seeing a disaster.

This page is in two sections: first is underwater photos in the very shallow lagoon which has deadly currents when the low tide starts as the water runs outside the lagoon through channels through breaches in the lagoon reef.

The second section is the so called Rodrigues marine park. Well, it was pretty destroyed but the size of it was unbelievable- around 500 m2″ – 20 for 30 meters!

In the middle of nowhere the night sky is out of ordinary, One can see the black hole in the Milky Way with naked eyes.
